This is a new project added by the Community Council

Project scope

Prepare for the installation of a traffic signal at Tudor Rd. and MacInnes St. Discussion with a DOT&PF planning engineer indicates that underground conduit and hand-hole boxes to support a new traffic signal could be installed in conjunction with the installation of new medians planned by DOT&PF during summer 2018. This approach would eliminate the need to dig up pavement when the traffic signal is warranted. The goal is to improve traffic safety along Tudor Rd., to allow the fire department to access Tudor Rd. more safely, and to work this project in conjunction with the State of Alaska's Department of Transportation and Public Facilities installation of new medians along Tudor Rd.

Project need

Tudor Area Community Council members see a need for a traffic light at MacInnes St. and Tudor Rd. for fire vehicles to access Tudor Rd. Fire vehicles now have to risk accidents when trying to get out onto Tudor Rd. Members of Fire Station 4 have indicated support for the project. There also have been several fatalities along Tudor Rd. between MacInnes St. and the New Seward Highway. A DOT&PF safety engineer has prepared an preliminary study of the accident rates. The issue will be submitted to the Municipality's Traffic Engineering Department to obtain their cooperation and support in reducing traffic accidents on Tudor Rd. and to allow safer access for the Muni's Fire Department to Tudor Rd.
