Project scope

This project would study the pedestrian crossings of the Alaska Railroad in the Spenard area and then make recommendations for safety improvements. Future funding would be pursued to implement the results of the study.

This need has been identified by the Spenard Community Council.

Project status

This project has not started. There is no funding programmed in the six-year CIP for this project. However, this project will remain on the Needs List for future funding consideration.

The Spenard Community Council would like to see the Alaska Railroad be more proactive on this project. Access along the right-of-way has been restricted for pedestrians, but has also lead to an increase in homelessness and illicit drug activity.
