Downtown Capital Project Priorities

A list of proposed projects or needs that will be prioritized by the public through their community council. Here you will see them separated into three categories PM&E, State and Parks & Rec.

Project Management and Engineering

Status: Feb 28 2017 - Inventory and condition assessment of existing downtown lighting and signal systems is underway. Additional design funding programmed into 2017 road bond.
Status: Feb 28 2017 - This project has not started. State grant funding is proposed.
Status: Feb 28 2017 - No work is underway or scheduled in the six-year Capital Improvement Program. The project will remain on the Capital Projects Needs List for future funding consideration.

Status: Feb 28 2017 - AKA as the Downtown Trail Connection. Project team continues its public involvement and design study report preparation. Design study is slated for completion in May 2017.

State of Alaska

Status: Feb 28 2017 - No work is currently scheduled in the 6-year Capital Improvement Program. This is a state owned facility and evaluation and funding would be through the State of Alaska.
Status: Feb 28 2017 - Funding for this project is programmed by the state. Improvements to the southern portion of the corridor are being evaluated.
Status: Feb 28 2017 - The project has not started. As the roadways involved are state-owned, prioritization and funding would be through the Alaska DOT&PF.

Parks & Recreation

Status: Feb 28 2017 - Downtown tree infrastructure is maintained by park maintenance and horticulture division within Parks & Recreation. Existing infrastructure does not allow for adequate tree growth resulting in tree death. P&R is working with a private funder and the Downtown Rotary to install a tree bed pilot project on 4th Ave.
Status: Feb 28 2017 - Master Planning efforts are currently underway.
Status: Feb 28 2017 - The Parks & Recreation Department in partnership with the Anchorage Park Foundation and a group of neighbors have developed an initial project list to make quick landscape improvements. However, the group quickly realized that the issues would require more funding than is currently in-hand. In the summer of 2013, there will be a volunteer fix-it day to complete small landscape and signage improvements, and a contractor will begin the first phase of circulation and safety improvements.
Status: Feb 28 2017 - Park Maintenance and horticulture crews have cleared parks and trails making current park assets safe for Anchorage citizens.
Status: Feb 28 2017 - Within the past 6 years, the Parks & Recreation Department has partnered with the Anchorage Park Foundation and the Scotty Gomez Foundation to rehabilitate the Tikishla Park rink and the Mulcahy rinks. The Delaney Park rink is the next on the list to address.
Status: Feb 28 2017 - Park Maintenance performs monthly safety inspections and repairs the playground as necessary.
Status: Feb 28 2017 - The department just completed a small, fenced dog park at Arctic Benson Park. Another project is underway to formalize a fenced off-leash area at Valley of the Moon Park.
Status: Feb 28 2017 - The parking lot at Jodphur has become significantly more popular with the new single track trails that provide summer mountain biking and new winter access to Kincaid Park for non skiers.
Status: Feb 28 2017 - Anchorage has over 250 miles of tails and improved wayfinding will address safety and navigation concerns.
Status: Feb 28 2017 - Recent and ongoing bank armoring has provided protection for a 5- 10 year period.
Status: Feb 28 2017 - The department currently manages community gardens at The Gardens @ Bragaw, C Street Gardens, Fairview Lyons and McPhee Gardens
Status: Feb 28 2017 - The North Westchester Lagoon Bridge was replaced in 2015 with the Sisson and Fish Creek Bridge being replaced this year. The (2) remaining bridges to be replace are the South Westchester Lagoon Bridge and the 2nd Avenue Bridge.
